Woodwind Choir or Ensemble - Advanced Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by Gustav Holst (1874-1934). Arranged by John Gibson. 20th Century, Folk. Score, Set of Parts. 90 pages. Published by JB Linear
Gustav Holst - Folksongs of Hampshire England . In the early 1900's there was great interest in collecting and preserving the folk songs of England, Scotland, and Ireland. Equipped with their newly invented recording devices, people such as Cecil Sharp, Charles Stanford, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Gustav Holst would travel into the country-side to record, or notate songs being sung. They would frequently use these songs in their own compositions. Holst's music in particular is filled with those songs and his two suites for band are especially valued by wind bands around the world. This group of four songs was arranged for voice and piano by Holst and set for woodwind choir by John Gibson. The songs are 1. Young Edwin in the Lowlands Low 2. Bedlam City 3. The Irish Girl 4. Young Reilly. The instrumentation is the standard group of woodwinds found in a band piece: piccolo, flutes. oboes, bassoons, clarinets, bass clarinets, alto and tenor saxes, and baritone sax.

"Christmas Day" by Gustav Holst. Originally written for SATB choir and orchestra, I have arranged it for symphonic brass quintet of 2 trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba. (If your trombonist can play euphonium, I think it would sound better!) It contains snippets of many Christmas Carols, cleverly interwoven together. It suits the brass quintet. (Also available for brass band (treble clef) quintet. Contains the following carols: Good Christian Men Rejoice God Rest You Merry Gentlemen Come Ye Lofty, Come Ye Lowly The First Nowell Plenty of fun for each player.

The March from the Second Suite in F for Military Band (Op. 28, No. 2) by Gustav Holst is a staple of the concert band repertoire. Andrew Poirier has masterfully arranged this band classic for trombone quintet (alto, 3 tenor, bass), complete with optional euphonium solo as in Holsts original. This English folk song laden gem of about 4 1/2 minutes is sure to delight audiences and is suitable for advanced performers. This arrangement of the Holst March can be heard below and in its entirety on iTrombonis recently released third album: TAnguish.

Saxophone Quintet - Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by Gustav Holst (1874-1934). Arranged by Regis Bookshar. 20th Century, General Worship, Repertoire, Wedding, Funeral. Score, Set of Parts. 9 pages. Published by Regis Bookshar
O God, Beyond All Praising (Thaxted) (Bb) (Saxophone Quintet) - Intermediate - Digital Download. This marvelous arrangement of "O God, Beyond All Praising", a hymn tune based on the "Andante Maestoso" section from "Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity" from Gustav Holst's The Planets, would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for church services, especially Weddings and Funerals, but would be appropriate any time during the church year. However, if you are looking to perform this selection for concerts or recitals, I would suggest you look for the arrangement of "Jupiter" (Andante Maestoso from "Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity" from The Planets), also by Regis Bookshar. These arrangements are suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing these selections as well. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (9 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time. We have performed the Trumpet Quintet version of this composition quite often for numerous weddings and other special occasions.<br> The Planets, written between 1914 and 1917 by the English composer Gustav Holst, premiered at the Queen's Hall in London, on September 29, 1918 for an invited audience of about 250 people. In the fourth movement, "Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity", Holst portrays Jupiter's supposedly characteristic abundance of life and vitality. Nobility and generosity are allegedly characteristics of those born under Jupiter, and in the slower, middle section marked "Andante Maestoso", perhaps the most well-known theme from The Planets (and the theme on which this arrangement is based), Holst provides a broad tune embodying these traits. In 1921, Holst adapted the theme to fit the patriotic poem "I Vow to Thee, My Country" by Cecil Spring Rice, and was written as a unison song with orchestra. It did not appear as the hymn tune until 1926, when Holst harmonized this melody, named "Thaxted", named after the English village where he had lived for many years. Holst's friend Ralph Vaughan Williams included it in Songs of Praise. It has since been performed at numerous occasions, most notably for the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales in 1981, and also at the funerals of Princess Diana in 1997, Margaret Thatcher in 2013 and Senator John McCain where it was performed at the Washington National Cathedral on September 1, 2018. In addition to being used as the melody for the solemn, patriotic hymn "I Vow to The, My Country", other settings of this hymn tune also include "O God, Beyond All Praising", by Michael Perry in 1982 and "We Praise You and Acknowledge You, O God", a paraphrase of the "Te Deum Laudemus" by Stephen P. Starke in 1999.<br> Regis Bookshar thought that it would be wonderful if other instrumentalists could have the opportunity to play this beautiful melody, so, in addition to the Trumpet Quintet version and this version for a Saxophone Quintet, consisting of 2 Alto Saxophones, 2 Tenor Saxophones (one of which has the lead) and 1 Baritone Saxophone, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this selection. There are Quintets readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may find something else that may also suit your needs. I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar, as well, as there are numerous arrangements in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. You may find something else which might interest you. Please continue to check periodically because new arrangements are added as often as possible. I'm certain that this beautiful arrangement of "O God, Beyond All Praising" based on the "Andante Maestoso" section from "Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity" from Gustav Holst's The Planets, will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.

String Quintet - Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by Gustav Holst (1874-1934). Arranged by Regis Bookshar. 20th Century, General Worship, Repertoire, Wedding, Funeral. Score, Set of Parts. 9 pages. Published by Regis Bookshar
O God, Beyond All Praising (Thaxted) (Bb) (String Quintet) - Intermediate - Digital Download. Starke in 1999.<br> Regis Bookshar thought that it would be wonderful if other instrumentalists could have the opportunity to play this beautiful melody, so, in addition to the Trumpet Quintet version and this version for a String Quintet, consisting of 2 Violins, 1 Viola (which has the lead), 1 Violoncello and 1 Double Bass, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this selection.

B-Flat Clarinet,Bassoon,Double Bass,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.503334 Composed by Gustav Holst. Arranged by Ray Thompson. Christmas,Classical,Sacred. 16 pages. RayThompsonMusic #115479. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.503334). Personent hodie is a Christmas carol originally published in the 1582 Finnish song book Piae Cantiones, a volume of 74 Medieval songs with Latin texts collected by Jacobus Finno (Jaakko Suomalainen), a Swedish Lutheran cleric, and published by T.P. Rutha. The carol became more prominent in England after being arranged for unison voices and orchestra in 1916 by Gustav Holst (1874â1934), where in its organ reduction it is often used as a processional hymn in church and cathedral services. Holst's version often forms part of the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, and was last featured in the service broadcast by BBC2 from King's College Chapel, Cambridge in 2011 following the sixth lesson. This arrangement is sometimes referred to as Theodoric in reference to the composer's middle name (Theodore) and, in this setting, is the tune used for Percy Dearmer's hymn God is love, his the care.It is arranged for double wind quintet/bass.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.943947 Composed by Gustav Holst. Arranged by Clyde Grabski. 20th Century,Christmas,Classical,Romantic Period. 49 pages. Diamond Forest Publishing #4832581. Published by Diamond Forest Publishing (A0.943947). Gustav Holst (1874-1934) was an English composer of Swedish descent. Famous for his orchestral work The Planets, he wrote Christmas Day for his students at an English school to be performed by voices and orchestra during the holiday season. Several familiar Christmas carols are arranged so that two or three may be heard at the same time. The effect of Holstâs polyphonic treatment becomes even more transparent in the instrumentation provided here. The arrangement by Clyde Grabski is for the standard woodwind quintet, but also includes substitute parts for the Oboe (Clarinet) and Bassoon (Bass Clarinet). Scores for both ensembles are included.

Brass Quintet - Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by Gustav Holst (1874-1934). Arranged by Diego Marani. 20th Century, Classical Period, Repertoire, Classroom, Recital. Score, Set of Parts. 11 pages. Published by Diego Marani
The Planets, Op. 32, is a seven-movement orchestral suite by the English composer Gustav Holst, written between 1914 and 1916. Each movement of the suite is named after a planet of the solar system and its corresponding astrological character as defined by Holst.
"Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity", is the most thoroughly English section of the work, with Jupiter's high spirits projected through a broad, infectiously energetic melody. A stately, more serious processional theme (a sort of chorale) then enters, its royal dignity fully intact, after which the vigorous melody returns.
This arrangement for brass quintet contains the following parts: Bb Trumpet 1, Bb Trumpet 2, F Horn, Trombone, Tuba.
